Common Areas

On board Eros, you’ll find many places to take in your magical surroundings, from generous gathering spaces for group entertaining to intimate, cozy areas where you may retire for privacy. Coastal chic décor is crisp and refined, bathed in subtle maritime hues that complement the expansive scenery.

Outdoor Dining

Great memories are made around the dining table, and there are few as special as this. Situated just ahead of the steering position, Eros’ outdoor dining table is perfectly located to provide unimpeded views during casual meals, sunset cocktails and elegant dinners alike. Comfortable under sail, cool under the awning, and majestic under the stars, this expandable teak table with wraparound upholstered seating and overstuffed pillows seats up to eight.

Deckhouse

A favorite indoor space for most of our guests, the deckhouse features ample seating beneath large picture windows, with music controls at your fingertips. Dual chart tables double as an indoor desk area. Take a break from the outdoors without missing a beat of scenery. It’s the ideal place to catch up on some reading, check your emails, enjoy intimate conversation, or steal an afternoon nap. Some guests have even been known to sleep in the deckhouse.

Dining Saloon

The original teak paneled dining saloon hearkens back to the nights when colorful personages from Greek tycoons to the King and Queen of Spain dined at this very table. With a nod towards the original Art Deco décor, we have retained the dining saloon’s early grandeur, updating it with luxurious fabrics & tableware. Comfortably seats 8 guests.

Living Saloon

Opposite the dining saloon, the living saloon features a large comfy u-shaped couch with a 50” flat screen TV. The couch doubles as two extra berths for large groups. The TV features DirecTV, movies, and can plug directly into your personal device (be sure to download your movies and favorite shows before your trip). This is the ideal space for cocktail hour, or just kicking back and taking in a movie.

Outdoor Relaxation

Eros offers numerous seating and lounging areas on deck, all perfectly suited for sunbathing, reading, napping or socializing as you take in 360 degrees of breathtaking scenery. Whether you seek sun or shade, privacy or the company of friends and family, there is a place for you on board.

An assortment of comfortable teak furniture can be arranged in various settings around the yacht for lounging, socializing and dining.

The Crew

Even though Eros is beautiful, and you will visit wonderful places, your charter would not meet your expectations without a truly wonderful crew. The five crew members below are a cohesive team that loves working together, and enjoys time off together too. Our guests regularly rave about them, and you will too. They include our captain, chef, first mate, chief stew, and deckhand/stew. All crewmembers are licensed full-time professionals, certified by the U.S. Coast Guard. Their love for sailing is matched by their steadfast commitment to your safety and comfort. All are vaccinated.

Colin Horton, Relief Captain

Colin Horton, Captain

Colin began his sailing career in his home, the Pacific Northwest, while he was in college. He has spent the last 10+ years working on a variety of vessels all over the world. His experience includes multiple Caribbean and Mediterranean sailing seasons, three transatlantic voyages and many super yacht regattas. Colin holds his 200-ton Near Coastal USCG Captain’s license. In his off time Colin owns and maintains his own sailboat and enjoys cruising around the greater New England area.

Esteban Mogollon, First Mate

Esteban's passion for sailing began in south Florida, where he would race his older sister in a couple lasers across Biscayne Bay. He became enchanted with classic sailboats after working on a few schooners in Newport, RI and Connecticut. Currently holding a 100-Ton Near Coastal USCG Captain's license, he aspires to upgrade to a 200-Ton license. Beyond the sea, Esteban finds joy in woodworking, surfing, and watching fútbol.

Heather Stout, Chef

Heather grew up in the southwest desert of Utah and migrated to the eastern coast over a decade ago, where she ended up in Maine and fell in love with classic wooden schooners, the rugged Atlantic shoreline, and the hearty New England agriculture. With over twenty years of experience in restaurants and farming, Heather knows the importance of promoting local food culture by finding and learning the expertise of farmers, ingredients, and practices from the different regions we visit. She places an emphasis on healthy and vibrant meals, and brings a clear message of sustainability and nourishment to her cuisine.

Tami Stawicki, Chief Stewardess

For Tami grew up on the coast of Connecticut before moving to New York to work as an actuary. After five years, she wanted to focus on traveling and made the switch to work as a host on yachts in Croatia. After a couple of seasons and working various hospitality roles, she is excited to join the crew on Eros. In her free time, Tami enjoys reading, walking, swimming, and running.

Brieanne Buckey, Chief Stewardess/Deck

Bri grew up on Jamestown Island across the bridge from Newport, RI, where she naturally fell in love with the ocean, and boats. After a stint in the Hawaiian islands, she moved to the Virgin Islands to be close to her first love, warm ocean waters. Drawn to the yachts in the harbor she took a job on a charter boat and has not looked back. Unlike most charter crew Bri threw in a couple of interesting side gigs, commercial salmon fishing in Alaska, and earning her Coast Guard captain’s license for up to six passengers. Look out, Captain Justin. She has rounded out her guest service experience with several years working in restaurants and hotels and truly loves to make sure Eros’s charter guests’ expectations are exceeded every minute they are on board. Bri also prides herself on her excellent mixology skills.

On board satellite phone and Wi-Fi internet keep us in contact with the mainland, and our sailing routes mean we are never far from medical facilities if needed.

History: The Story of Eros

historic photo of Eros
Sports Illustrated cover August 1959

1945 - 1970: A billionaire's pride on the mediterranean

Following the war, Greek billionaire shipping tycoon, Stavros Niarchos, purchased Jeanry as his private yacht, and renamed her Eros in honor of the Greek goddess of love and passion. An avid sailor, Niarchos was profiled on the cover of Sports Illustrated in August 1959. Henceforward, Eros became a well-known fixture within the prestigious Mediterranean yachting world. If walls could talk, Eros would undoubtedly have countless captivating tales to tell from these years.

1962: A royal Honeymoon

In May of 1962, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain spent some of their honeymoon aboard Eros. Niarchos had gifted the use of Eros along with his private Greek island, Spetsopoula, to the royal newlyweds. This illustrious occasion is detailed in A Life Under Surveillance, a literary account of Spain’s transformation from dictatorship to democracy under King Juan Carlos.

1990 - 2010: monumental restoration ushers Eros into the 21st century

Over the course of nearly 50 years, Eros changed ownership only three times before anchoring with her current owners. She has recently completed a massive 18-year museum-quality restoration to adapt and upgrade this historical schooner to the standards of first class travel. No expense was spared in recreating her original grandeur, with particular attention paid to replicating her classic detail and finish work. While her internal structure, including steel framework and rigging, is either brand new or totally renovated, she proudly retains many original details, from her authentic turnbuckles and Admiralty bronze fittings to the bell from her 1939 naming ceremony mounted at the aft end of the bowsprit. Most notably, each Burmese teak plank of her hull is original to 1939, having been reinstalled following rigorous inspection.

Eros is now outfitted with the latest navigation, galley and engine room equipment. A Cordon Bleu chef-designed galley boasts all modern appliances. Air conditioned interiors, washer/dryer, and premium entertainment systems complete her modernization.

In preparation for the 2016-17 charter season, Eros has undergone a complete interior redecoration, seamlessly marrying the style and comfort of sophisticated luxury travel with the thrill of sailing aboard this historical masterpiece.

Eros is all at once a step back in time, and distinctly modern innovative touring vessel. It is with great honor that her new owners commit her to charter service, devoted to maintaining her beauty and performance in a way that would make her original owners and builders proud.
